Get up early (before mum gets up) and cook her favourite breakfast dish and bring it to her in bed. This is a lovely way to start the day and gives your mum some extra time in bed. If you are involving the kids choose easy to make foods like pancakes or home made banana bread. Alternatively you can take your mum out to brunch or lunch to a place of her choice to be wined and dined. Inviting the extended family along too will definitely brighten her day.

2. Give mum some well-deserved ‘mum time’ while you clean the house

5 reasons the best children’s gift is a personalised book

A personalised storybook inspires engagement which help develops a love of reading and personalised books make an affordable children’s gift any time of year.

1. Your child is the star

In a personalised My Adventure Book your child is the star. From the very first page your child is woven into the story, along with their friends, their birth date and even their hometown. Your child will be so excited when they realise they are in the same story as Anna and Elsa, Luke and Han Solo, or Ryder and Chase. They will want to read the story over and over again.

2. Instill a love of reading from an early age

Reading is fun! And a love of reading from an early age can set one up for life. Reading encourages little minds to create, imagine and expand.  We believe that books are the breeding grounds of creativity, and that they lead to a lifetime of excitement and stimulation. The joy of disappearing into a storybook is amplified when your child is a key character in the story.

3. Improve fluency, vocabulary and comprehension

Successful reading is all about making sense of the story we’re reading. It’s important to read aloud to assist your child in developing their reading rhythm, which in turns helps understanding and comprehension. Skipping ahead and identifying unfamiliar words in advance helps to develop their vocabulary. Reading their favourite stories over and over is a key development stage for young readers. We’re sure that a personalised storybook is sure to be one for the favourites list.

4. Mums and Dads can enjoy story time too

Setting aside time for reading is a great way to spend quality time with your child. Mix things up a little, add funny voices, and ask your child to repeat sentences you’ve just read aloud. Research has shown that when Dad’s and Granddad’s read to children they provide a different range of experiences and hearing the same book from different readers encourages little ones to become active readers.

5. A precious keepsake for when kids get older

When kids get older and pick up their My Adventure Book, they are taken back to the story. 6 great tips for a stress free Book Week

Book Week is celebrated each year in Australia in August. This year Book Week runs from 22nd August to 28th August, 2015. Book Week is a fun time for kids when they can show their love of books and reading.

Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book characters. Although fun for kids, Book Week costumes can create stress for parents. It is not always easy to make a costume of your child’s favourite character, so we’ve complied 6 great tips to make Book Week stress free for mums and dads.

1. Plan Ahead

Start planning now. Give yourself some time to make the costume. It is fun to design and make the costume with your child when you are relaxed and have set aside the time.

Dollarphotoclub_84484357_web

2. You May Already Have a Costume

At Identity Direct, we predict that this year, Elsa and Anna from Disney Frozen will be popular Book Week characters! But Frozen is not a book, we hear you say? Oh, yes it is! Elsa and Anna are the stars of our very popular My Adventures with Disney Frozen. Lots of young girls already have an Elsa or Anna costume for dressing up. Or you can re-use a costume from Halloween or a fancy dress party.

There are other characters from the movies too, that also star in a My Adventure Book – Spiderman, the gang from Marvel The Avengers, Disney Princess, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, even Mickey Mouse.

3. Hit the Craft Stores for Inspiration

Craft stores or discount variety stores are a great place to find inspiration, and those all important finishing touches. By adding swashbuckling pirate accessories, a wig or a hat, you can turn a good costume into a great one without breaking the bank.

Dollarphotoclub_80298985_web

4. Search the Internet for Easy to Make Costumes

The internet has many blogs written by crafty mums with great ideas on how to make costumes. If your child loves Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you are in luck, with this easy to make costume. All you need is a foil tray and some fabric for the mask and you have a costume. Find the full instructions here on the Crafts by Courtney blog.

5. Send The Book Along Too

Send your child with a copy of the book, so they can share their character’s adventure with their friends. Children who take their My Adventure Book can show their classmates that they are in the book too, as each book is personalised with the child’s name and they feature throughout the story.

6. Make the Costume Easy to Remove

Your child may not want to stay in the costume all day and may only last until the book parade is over! Ensure that the costume is easy to remove and they have some clothes to change into.

We hope you and your child enjoy Book Week 2015. Please share your photos on the Identity Direct Facebook Page.

5 easy ways to get ahead with this year’s gift giving

At Identity Direct we understand the pressure that goes with the task of finding the perfect gift. We know that delightful feeling of fulfillment you get when you give a unique and memorable gift that will be loved for many years to come. This is something we thrive on and after 23 years as a world leading supplier of personalised gifts we want to share with you some tips and tricks to inspire you with your gift giving this year.

So, what are you waiting for? Follow our 5 simple steps to get on top of your gift shopping, no matter what the occasion.

No1

We all know that being organised reduces stress. When it comes to gift giving being organised reduces financial stress, the stress of last minute buying and the worry that the gift may not be well received. Choose a reminder method that works for you: simply diarise all of the special occasions and birthdays so you can see in advance which gift giving occasion is next; or set up reminders in your online or smartphone calendar 4 weeks in advance of each occasion; or download an app to keep track of events year upon year.  When you know that special someone’s birthday is approaching you will have time to think about what the ‘perfect’ gift for your loved one will be and to really consider the most meaningful and thoughtful gift, just for them. Personalising a gift shows that a lot of thought went into the gift and expresses to the recipient that you thought they were worth the extra effort! Identity Direct makes personalising a gift easy, with a variety of gift ideas for everyone. Did you know that personalising a gift takes longer? This is why it helps to plan ahead. Being organised allows you to budget, plan, keep calm and then you have more time to relax, with the knowledge that your gift will be loved and remembered.

No2

Gift giving is an expression of love, friendship, recognition or thanks. Whatever the reason or occasion, make your gift remarkable and unforgettable.  Nothing beats that warm, fuzzy and satisfying feeling you get when you amaze a loved one with a gift so thoughtful, extraordinary and memorable that you know they will love and cherish forever. Personalising a gift genuinely shows your loved ones how special they are to you and ensures your gift will be remembered.  Your gift will stand out as the most thoughtful which is really a reflection on the type of person you truly are. By following step 1 you will have the time to order personalised gifts. With a huge range of gifts to suit every age, occasion and every budget – Identity Direct  has something for everyone, from baby and christening gifts to personalised children’s books and toys, gifts for mums and dads, beer and wine enthusiasts, teachers and more.

No3

We know the pace of life these days can leave you time poor with little or no ‘me time’. Sitting back with a big cup of tea and shopping online is a great way to multi-task; unwind, save time, and buy those all-important gifts. You can buy personalised gifts for your loved ones in less time than it would take to drive to the shopping centre, find a car parking space and wander from shop to shop. From the comfort and warmth of your own home you can shop with confidence at Identity Direct using our secure online checkout. Not sure about the product you’re considering purchasing? Read some reviews from our loyal customers on our website. By following steps 1 and 2 above you can order your memorable and thoughtful gifts with plenty of time for personalisation from the couch. Shopping online or, running around the shops with the kids in tow? Sounds like a no brainer to us!

No4

Relax! We can almost hear you laughing but, seriously, now that you are organised and know whose birthday is  when and how many people are on your Christmas list, you can say goodbye to stressful shopping. Those happy shopping endorphins are ready to be unleashed. By saving time shopping online, you now have the time to relax rather than searching frantically for the ultimate gift knowing that time is ticking away. As the gift giving experts, we encourage you to take a little time-out and put your feet up. Given that you are well on your way to being the year’s most celebrated gift giving super star you deserve a little something, why not treat yourself? You must have seen something you liked when shopping for your loved ones. Go on, indulge a little, we won’t tell anyone.

No5

You have done a wonderful, amazing job with the gifts you have bought for family and friends. Now, watch with thrilling excitement as they open their gifts. Get ready to see those faces light up with wonder and delight when they see the considerate and thoughtful gifts you have chosen for them. School Holiday Activities – 5 Boredom Busters to keep your kids busy

School Holidays are a great time to relax and enjoy being with the family. It’s such a relief not having to worry about homework, last minute school projects and getting the kids out the door on time. The downside is your children think you’re the CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer). As the CEO you’re responsible for keeping everyone entertained from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to bed. During previous school holidays, how many times have you heard your child say, “What will we do now, I’m bored”?

As every good CEO knows, it pays to be prepared. Here are fabulous school holiday activities that are guaranteed to delight and entertain.

1. Get Creative
Encourage your child to further develop their motor skills and stimulate their creativity by drawing pictures and colouring in. This is also an opportunity to work on a ‘project’ together and spend quality time with your little one. Do you need a place to store your little artist’s work or, are you looking for more activity books or colouring pencils? Then, check out our great range of personalised products today.

Looking for something more creative? Try our I Designed It Myself Mug.
Your child will love to create their very own masterpiece with this easy to use mug kit. Simply paint and bake. Every morning, your child can sip their drink from a mug adorned with their very own artwork. If you’re staying with relatives, it would be a wonderful school holiday activity and an ideal thank you gift for Grandma or Granddad.

2. Build a Fort
Making a fort is a fun school holiday activity. It’s amazing what you can make with a sheet, table, pillows or couch and some imagination. Your child can curl up in one of our Snuggle Sacks and take a nap in the fort.

3. Play the Character Alphabet Game
Each player starts with a sheet of  lined paper with one letter of the alphabet on each line going down the page and a pencil.  Set an alarm for 5 minutes to write down the name of an animated character which corresponds with the appropriate letter. For example; A is for Anna (from Disney Frozen), B is for Buzz Lightyear (from Disney/Pixar Toy Story) and E is for Elmo (from Sesame Street). If a child is too young to write, ask them to draw the characters. If a player finishes before the time is up they shout STOP. The player who has written down the most characters wins!

4. Energise Young Minds With A Memory Game
One player is selected as the Collector. In secret, the Collector finds 10 small everyday household items (hairbrush, pen, magazine etc.) and puts them on a tray or a table in a room away from the other players. The items are then covered with a tea towel or similar. The rest of the players are invited into the other room, and the cloth covering the items is removed. The players have 1 minute to memorise the items (without writing them down), before they are covered up again. Each player then has 5 minutes to write down all the items. If a child is too young to write, ask them to draw the items. If a player finishes before the time is up they shout STOP. The player with the most items wins. Each player takes turns at being the Collector.

5. Keep Them Reading with My Adventure Books
Encouraging your kids to to read is a must do school holiday activity. Why not check out our range of personalised My Adventure Books where your child is the star. Your child will love to see their name in print, alongside their friends and favourite characters, like Anna and Elsa from Frozen.
